Head of Dosimetry and Instrumentation

Job Purpose

Develop and lead the implement of strategies to perform dosimetry and calibration activities for the Radiation Safety (RS) and provide support to commissioning, startup, operation, and maintenance of all Barakah Nuclear Power Plant (BNPP) units. Lead the governance and oversight activities to ensure that all human resources, plant facilities, technical programs, processes and procedures of RS are consistent and standardized across all BNPP units.

Key Activities, Responsibility & Accountability

o the plant organization in preparation and conduct of World Association of Nuclear Operator (WANO) and Institute of Nuclear Power Operations (INPO) evaluations to ensure alignment with standards.

• Facilitate the creation and management of the Site Support RS budget to align with plant operations budget.

• Provide technical reviews for plant procedures and reports to ensure procedures remain up-to-date and relevant.

• Provide support to the creation and management of the Site Support RS and Waste Management Business Plan to ensure alignment with regulatory requirements and operational readiness.

Activity:

Staff Training and Qualification

Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

• Develop strategic goals, management expectations, and communicate in and out of the RS function, to ensure a high level of safety and reliability of plant systems.

• Critically evaluate performance of individual staff members to identify the required training needs as well as carry out mentoring and coaching initiatives to improve performance.

• Verify training programs and provide necessary technical knowledge and skills and provide training feedback on program effectiveness with evaluation of RS performance to validate staff training.

• Provide technical mentoring to UAE nationals for Emiratization regarding Dosimetry area to ensure compliance with training requirements.

• Verify Engineer Designees and Engineers are trained and qualified for Dosimetry area to provide supply of qualified staff.

Activity:

Operational Planning

Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

• Provide input into the development of the Department’s systems and processes, as well develop, and implement the Section’s procedures, identifying opportunities for the continuous improvement of practices to increase productivity and operational efficiency.

• Monitor, control and report Operational and financial Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) related to the Section, to track performance and recommend corrective or mitigating actions.

• Ensure that all relative reports are prepared timely and accurately, to meet the Section’s requirements and standards.

Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

• Ensure compliance to all relevant health, safety and environmental management policies, procedures, and controls across the Section by the delivery of the Health and Safety Management Program to guarantee employee safety, legislative compliance, delivery of high-quality services and a responsible environmental attitude.

• Follow all relevant Security policies, processes, procedures, and instructions to ensure security compliance in all aspects of work, by applying them on self, others, and corporate assets.

Activity:

Dosimetry and Calibration Management

Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

• Manage all BNPP unit dosimetry and calibration activities to achieve the highest level of safety and reliability.

• Monitor periodic or unscheduled oversight activities including surveillance and check of the calibration and dosimetry systems and equipment to ensure the highest standards of conduct.

• Lead the identification of any potential dosimetry and calibration issues, and the analysis of cause effects and take appropriate actions to remediate deficiencies and prevent their reoccurrences.

• Lead the development and maintenance of dosimetry and calibration programs, processes and procedures to ensure adherence and standardization across BNPP units, and alignment with regulatory standards as they are updated.

• Ensure the provision of support to the operation and calibration of the Dosimetry system and equipment to ensure standardization of instrumentation.

• Conduct procurement of Dosimetry consumables and others including development of Purchase Specification to ensure operational readiness.

• Identify and keep current on general knowledge of Dosimetry equipment regulations and industrial codes, internally and across organization to promote RP awareness.

• Verify BNPP has the proper quantity of radiation detection instruments to remain above required minimum.

• Monitor and manage radiation survey meters, monitors, and air samplers to ensure equipment meets high operational standards.

• Lead the assessment and verification of skin dose and personal dose to ensure compliance with regulatory radiation dosage limits.

• Review exposure dose of radiation workers to report to Federal Authority of Nuclear Regulation (FANR) to maintain reporting compliance.

• Lead the development and review annual reports tracking exposure goals for workers, outages and departments within the containment area to drive performance improvement with lower exposure ratings.

Program Standardization

Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

• Provide plant-wide standardization of RS activities for all BNPP units to provide consistent operation.

• Ensure RS programs, processes, and procedures are shared by all BNPP units.

• Ensure training facilities, program, processes, and qualification materials are the same for all BNPP units.

Plant Support

Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

• Liaise BNPP RS and related functions at plant to ensure efficient operations.

• Plan human capital forecasts for RS and support to hire, train and qualify staff to ensure operational readiness.

• Provide support for the BNPP As Low As Reasonably Achievable (ALARA) Committee and Radioactive Waste Management Committee to improve plant performance with regards to exposure.

• 6 years of relevant experience.

QualificationMax: • Bachelor’s Degree in Nuclear Engineering or Physics.

• 1 year of Nuclear Power Plant experience out of which:

• 3 months of BNPP site experience

• 6 months of participation in radiation protection activities at a nuclear power plant

• APR-1400 or OPR-1000 operation, Radiation Protection or Radioactive Waste Management.
