Global Travel Retail (GTR) is among the largest volume markets in JTI, operating in 160+ countries with 37 brands. We sell JTI products to international travelers in various channels (airports, border shops, ferries, diplomatic shops, etc.) and aspire to become the No.1 Tobacco Company in Travel Retail.

Legal Manager Global Travel Retail

The Global Travel Retail Legal Manager will provide legal advice to the GTR business on all legal matters affecting its operations. The aim is to achieve corporate and commercial objectives in a manner that ensures compliance with the law and appropriate monitoring and management of legal risk.

The Legal Manager will be responsible for all legal matters (marketing activities, product regulation, contracts, etc.) for the Travel Retail MENEAT Hub (28 markets, subject to changes based on business needs). You will also provide support in specific and complex areas of the law, such as competition law, economic sanctions, and data protection.

Position:

The Legal Manager will:

  • Provide legal advice on Tobacco and RRP regulations to the business teams in the MENEAT Travel Retail markets and to GTR central functions. Perform complex research and analysis of local laws in GTR markets with a focus on product regulation and marketing activities
  • Analyze the potential impact of anticipated regulations and actively support the Corporate Affairs Department in its advocacy efforts
  • Review, draft, and support negotiation of GTR agreements in the MENEAT Travel Retail markets (e.g. Sales & Distribution agreements, Smoking Lounges agreements). Support the development of the GTR Route to Market strategy in these markets
  • Develop knowledge and provide support to the business teams and the Legal team in specific and complex areas of law, such as economic sanctions, competition law, or data protection. Prepare and deliver the necessary training
  • Closely cooperate with external counsels and ensure the quality of outsourced legal advice as well as cost control

Within 12 months you will:

Requirements:

  • University Degree in Law
  • Minimum 8 years work experience in a law firm and/or multinational corporation
  • Demonstrated competence as a practicing lawyer in international business transactions, contracts, distribution, and competition/antitrust areas as well as regulatory issues
  • Fluency in the English language both written and verbal
  • A good command of Arabic or French is an advantage
  • Capacity to work autonomously and make effective decisions quickly, capacity to prioritize a diverse workload
  • Strong negotiation skills, excellent communication skills, cultural sensitivity, business-oriented and results-oriented skills
